University

Exams are over. Exams are just beginning!

The four exams I had at the beginning of this term didn't go too badly. Maths I was much easier than I had feared which is just as well since that meant that I had more time to try the Maths II exam. Maths II was just a baaad exam. I mean everyone found it difficult but it was just nasty. Fortunately Geophysics and Physics of Power Generation went spiffingly.

In all round good news all the lectures for this year are now finished so now I've about three weeks until my next set of exams start. In even better news, Lab for this year is over which is just as well since the Lab I just finished was an 'Astronomy' lab which involved looking through a telescope, through a mirror on the other side of the room, at a light box above my head with a slide with a picture of Saturn in it. It was probably the most tedious and least worthwhile lab ever.

Now it's simply a case of winning the upcoming exams to remain on the MPhys course.

Misc

I feel a list is in order:

  • KSquares is now in KDE Games and so will released in KDE 4.0.0 Alpha next Monday
  • I've been doing lots of library work for libkdegames. Stuff that no-one will ever notice
  • I've got four exams in the coming week so that's annoying
  • Skiing was awesome
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is also awesome

Phew, this lazyman blogging is much easier :D

Holidays

Woo, well that's another university term over. It's been a pretty mental one with more work than was really fair.

However, I can't really complain since in about 6 hours I'm leaving to go on a skiing holiday in France. I'm going to Les Gets near the Swiss border and looking at the weather, it's going to be pretty cold! I haven't skied in about three years so hopefully I can still remember how to do it.

I’m covered in bees!

Pff, it seems I only get to writing on this thing when I'm busy. Well, that can't be entirely true because I've been busy almost non-stop since the last post and I haven't posted since I've been too busy. I've got plenty more maths/EMO/C assignments to do but I'm putting most of those off to the last minute like a good boy.

Further to all this, our house is falling apart. At the moment both the toilets are broken (in different ways, mind), the internet is flaky as the sun and the power keeps cutting out. The power problem in fact led to my computer almost breaking. Every time the power goes, it corrupts the CMOS so when the computer is turned on again, I have to set up all the settings in the BIOS again. However, today it just started beeping at me. Not good. Fortunately, after a bit of troubleshooting, I discovered it wasn't the memory (which was nice) but a manual wipe of the CMOS fixed it without too much pain.

Despite all this, I got round to ordering the Eddie Izzard MMVI boxset so that's been cheering me up :D I can't stop pointing at my head and saying, "In my mind!" People must think I'm crazy.

Work. Extremely.

I have such a ridiculous volume of work this week it's actually ridiculing me. I've got a C assignment due in tomorrow, a Global Warming assignment in for tomorrow, maths assignments for Wednesday, a maths test on Thursday, an EMO (Electromagnetism & Optics) assignment in for Friday, an electronics lab for next Monday (which I will need to do extra work for), a new lab starting next Tuesday and a massive maths assignment for next Friday.

And it's my Birthday tomorrow so I'm spending most of that in lab.

It's 'literally' mental.

A few facts…

Derivative control is cool but doesn't do anything interesting.
Proportional control is quite (i.e really) rubbish because at best it gets half way there.
Integral control is just weak and unstable.
PID is fairly bitching.

Despite PID being bitching I don't see why I should have to write any more about it than I just did.
Ergo, lab sucks.

UPDATE:
Oh, and whoever thought it would be just a brilliant idea to make us program the microprocessor in QBasic is clearly a complete idiotard. Hellooo, the eighties called and they want their crippled "programming language" back!

Off to Uni

Well I'm off to university again tomorrow! I'm starting my second year of Physics.

I've got myself a new Printer (Epson D68 Photo Edition) which works in Linux thanks to Gutenprint and a wireless network card (Broadcom BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g]) which also works in Linux thanks to NDISWrapper so I'm all set. Our internet isn't going to be set up for a week or so since we only just ordered it so 'till then I'll be mostly silent.
